Background

With the rapid growth of China's new energy market in recent years, the battery industry has also experienced rapid development; however, battery safety incidents continue to occur.

In this context, the Standardization Administration of China officially released GB38031-2025, "Safety Requirements for Power Storage Batteries for Electric Vehicles," to promote continuous innovation in battery technology. As a specialist in reliability simulation environmental testing equipment, BOTO's battery explosion-proof temp test chamber and safety testing solutions are helping upstream and downstream companies in the new energy industry chain quickly meet the requirements of the new national standard, jointly promoting industry safety upgrades.

Standard Upgrade

Compared to the 2020 version of GB 38031-2020, GB38031-2025 has stricter requirements across multiple dimensions and introduces several unprecedented safety regulations:
~ The battery must sound an alarm within 5 minutes of thermal runaway and must not catch fire or explode within 2 hours; the temperature at all monitoring points must be ≤ 60°C; and smoke must not enter the passenger compartment;
~ A new bottom impact test has been added: After a 30mm diameter steel ball strikes the bottom of the battery with an energy of 150J, there must be no leakage, no casing cracking, no fire or explosion, and the insulation resistance requirements must be met;
~ A new post-fast charge cycle safety test has been added: After 300 fast charge cycles (SOC range 20%-80%, single charge ≤ 15 minutes), the battery must undergo an external short-circuit test and still not catch fire or explode;
~ A new internal heater triggering method has been added to simulate an internal short circuit in the battery; and the needle penetration speed range has been adjusted (0.1-1mm/s) to more closely reflect actual failure modes. The requirements in the new standard far exceed the relevant standards in Europe and the United States, which have not yet put forward such high battery performance requirements.

BOTO Battery Explosion-Proof Temperature Test Chambers Drive Development

The implementation of the new national standard presents both a significant challenge and a tremendous opportunity for us, as manufacturers of environmental testing equipment. The new standard places higher demands on testing rigor, complexity, and comprehensiveness, necessitating comprehensive upgrades to meet market demand.

BOTO GROUP, with years of experience in reliability testing equipment, has launched battery explosion-proof temp test chamber and related safety testing solutions, helping domestic and international customers adapt to the increasingly stringent testing requirements of the battery industry.
