Salt water corrosion test is an environmental simulation test method mainly used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of materials or products. The test simulates the marine environment, coastal areas or other harsh environments containing salt to test the corrosion resistance of materials in salt spray environments. The core purpose of saltwater corrosion test is to predict the service life of materials in actual use environments, especially the durability of materials in harsh environments.
Principle
The salt water corrosion test uses a salt spray corrosion test chamber to create a salt spray environment. The salt spray chamber atomizes the sodium chloride (NaCl) solution through a spray device to form a salt spray environment. The concentration of the sodium chloride solution is 5% (mass fraction) and the pH value is between 6.5-7.2 to simulate the composition of salt spray in natural seawater or coastal areas. When the material or product is placed in the salt spray chamber, the chloride ions in the salt spray will be adsorbed on the surface of the material and react chemically with the material, causing corrosion. For metal materials, chloride ions will destroy the passivation film on the metal surface and cause electrochemical corrosion.
